Critical Illness Insurance
Even with health insurance, an unexpected illness can leave you with out-of-pocket expenses that can really add up. As an American Bar Association (ABA) member, you have access to up to $40,000 of Critical Illness (CI) Insurance for you and your spouse and up to $20,000 for your children at affordable group rates.1 This coverage, issued by The Prudential Insurance Company of America, can help protect your family and ease the financial burden if you’re diagnosed with a covered condition.
Critical Illness Plan Features
- Acceptance is guaranteed with no medical questions or underwriting. It only takes a few minutes to enroll online.
- Coverage available for you and your family.2 You and your spouse can choose a coverage amount up to $40,000, and if you have children, you can cover them for 50% of your benefit amount, up to a maximum of $20,000.
- Benefits can be used for whatever you need to help keep up with unexpected expenses, such as child care, hotels, groceries, and any additional medical and non-medical costs that may come up.
- If you’re diagnosed with a covered condition, the plan will pay a lump-sum payment directly to you—and most of our claims are paid within seven business days.
- Covers a wide range of diagnoses, not just cancer. See the FAQ page for a more comprehensive list of covered conditions.
- Payments are based on diagnosis, not treatment, and you can receive benefits even if you’re not out of work.
- You’ll be covered beginning on the first of the month after your first premium contribution has been made and after eligibility approval.
- Coverage you can keep, even if you change jobs, as long as you are a current ABA member in good standing.
1You must be a current member of the American Bar Association in good standing to qualify for this insurance plan.
2Coverage for your spouse and children is dependent on you being a current member of the American Bar Association in good standing.
